What the comments viewer shows

The viewer reads the comments shown on a public post or Reel: each commenter’s username and name, the comment text, when it was posted and how many likes it has. Replies are counted but not expanded.

Instagram returns comments a page at a time, in its own order. One lookup reads up to three pages, so on a post with thousands of comments you see the first part of the conversation. The total count comes from the post itself, so you can see how much is covered.

The username search runs in your browser over the comments shown. If a name isn’t found, the person may still have commented further down or replied to another comment. Each list is kept on our server for up to an hour to answer repeat lookups, then discarded.

A few useful answers

How can I see the comments on an Instagram post?

Copy the link of a public post or Reel, paste it above and select Show comments. You’ll see the comments Instagram returns, with each author, when it was posted and its like count.

How do I check if someone commented on a post?

After the comments load, type the person’s username in the search box. Matching comments stay in the list. If the name isn’t there, they may have commented further down or replied to another comment, because one lookup reads only part of a long thread.

Why can’t I see every comment?

Instagram serves comments a page at a time and decides their order. One lookup reads up to three pages, and replies are counted but not expanded, so busy posts can have many more comments than one lookup shows.

Do I need an Instagram account?

No. You don’t need to log in or install anything. Our server reads the comments from the public post.

Can I read comments on posts from accounts that aren’t public?

No. Only public posts and Reels can be read. The tool never logs in to Instagram and cannot request access to an account.

Do you keep the comments or my searches?

Each list is kept in our server’s memory for up to an hour so repeat lookups are faster, then discarded. It is never written to a database, and the usernames you search for stay in your browser.
